Etymology: Innovation to m. *καρταί-πως for καρταί-πους (Pi.) = κραταί-πους `with strong feet' (Hom. Epigr.); Schwyzer 580 n. 6, Sommer Nominalkomp. 29 n. 1, 31f. - To this, as short form, κάρτην (for -ταν) την βοῦν. Κρῆτες H.; s. Bechtel Dial. 2, 787, Fraenkel Glotta 35, 86ff. and Μνήμης χάριν 1, 101; but the gloss is prob. corrupt (Latte s.v. and p. 815).
